Opportunities in Human Affairs, Dosu in the Principle of Heaven (2)

인사는 기회가 있고 천리는 도수가 있다 (2)

Sangjenim replied, “In human affairs, there are opportunities;

상제님께서 이르시기를 “인사(人事)는 기회(機會)가 있고

in the principle of heaven, there are dosu.

천리(天理)는 도수(度數)가 있나니,

Creating opportunities and establishing dosu are standards of the work of renewal.

그 기회를 지으며 도수를 짜 내는 것이 공사의 규범이라.

If I were to abandon these standards and hasten the work forcibly,

이제 그 규범을 버리고 억지로 일을 꾸미면

disasters would befall the world, stealing away the lives of multitudes.

이는 천하에 재앙을 끼침이요, 억조의 생명을 빼앗는 것이므로

This surely must not come to pass.”

차마 할 일이 아니니라.” 하시니라.

But Won-il remained obstinate and would not heed Sangjenim.

이에 원일이 듣지 않고 굳이 청하여 말하기를

“This world is already chaotic and immoral, and the distinction between good and evil has become lost.

“지금 천하가 혼란무도하여 선악을 구별하기 어려우니

It would be just to immediately destroy the present world and bring to pass a new destiny!”

속히 진멸하고 새 운수를 여심이 옳으나이다.” 하니

Won-il’s words disturbed Sangjenim deeply.

상제님께서 심히 괴롭게 여기시니라.
