Sangjenim Establishes the Foundation of His Dao
도체(道體 : 四體)를 바로잡으심

The principle of heaven and earth consists of the three ultimates:

천지의 이치는 삼원(三元)이니

Mugeuk, Taegeuk, and Hwanggeuk.

곧 무극(無極)과 태극(太極)과 황극(皇極)이라.

Mugeuk, the primal source of dao, is ‘ten-earth’ (十土).

무극은 도의 본원(本源)이니 십토(十土)요,

Taegeuk, the basis of dao, is ‘one-water’ (一水).

태극은 도의 본체로 일수(一水)니라.

Hwanggeuk, the basis of the birth-growth dynamic that begets and nurtures all existence,

황극은 만물을 낳아 기르는 생장(生長) 운동의 본체니

is ‘five-earth’ (五土) in substance and ‘seven-fire’ (七火) in function.

오토(五土)를 체(體)로 삼고 칠화(七火)를 용(用)으로 삼느니라.

The universe, through the self-activation of ‘one-Taegeuk-water’(一太極水)

우주는 일태극수(一太極水)가 동(動)하여

and the birth-growth dynamic of ‘five-Hwanggeuk’ (五皇極),

오황극(五皇極)의 생장 운동을 거쳐

reaches the Autumn Gaebyeok’s destiny of maturation at ‘ten-Mugeuk’ (十無極).

십무극(十無極)에서 가을개벽의 성숙운을 맞이하니라.

“I am heaven, earth, sun, and moon,” proclaimed Sangjenim.

상제님께서 “나는 천지일월(天地日月)이니라.” 하시고

As such, he established the foundation of his dao based upon Geon, Gon, Gam, and

Ri —the four bodies of dao.

건곤감리 사체(四體)를 바탕으로 도체(道體)를 바로잡으시니

Geon and Gon (heaven and earth), the substance of dao, represent Mugeuk;

건곤(乾坤:天地)은 도의 체로 무극이요,

Gam and Ri (moon and sun), the function of dao, represent, respectively,

감리(坎離:日月)는 도의 용이 되매

Taegeuk as the substance

태극(水)을 체로 하고

and Hwanggeuk as the function;

황극(火)을 용으로 삼나니

and so, the three ultimates are as one.

이로써 삼원이 합일하니라.

It was in accordance with this oneness of the three ultimates

그러므로 삼원합일(三元合一)의 이치에 따라

that Sangjenim’s dao lineage and authority materialized in human affairs.

도통(道統)은 인사화(人事化)되니라.
