1 Sangjenim proclaimed, “If you fall into the precipice of darkness during your practice, you will die.”
상제님께서 말씀하시기를 “공부하다가 낭에 떨어지면 죽느니라.” 하시니라.

또 이르시기를 “내가 부안(扶安) 신명을 불러도 응하지 않으므로 살펴보니
3 Delving into the matter, I discovered that Shin Won-il was meditating and spirits of that county guarding him would not leave his side. In light of this episode, how can you neglect to meditate?
신원일(辛元一)이 공부할 때에 그 지방신들이 호위하여 떠나지 못한 까닭이라. 이 일을 볼진대 공부를 어찌 등한히 알겠느냐.
4 Meditation is indeed that sacred, and thus a true meditation must be undertaken with utmost devotion.”
공부가 그렇게 소중한 것이니 참공부는 지성으로 해야 하느니라.” 하시니라.

I have to take responsibility for putting myself on that precipice.

2. 절벽, 벼랑
: A precipice is a very steep cliff on a mountain.
ex) The castle stands at the top of the precipice of a mountain.
그 요새는 어느 산 절벽의 꼭대기에 위치하고 있다.
