1 Taemonim is the Mother of Life, who received the inspiration of spirits in heaven and earth and thus wielded the spirits’ power of creation-transformation.

천지의 신도(神道)를 받으시어 신의 조화와 권능을 다 쓰시는 생명의 어머니이시니

2 In conducting works of renewal, she summoned wind, dew, frost, snow, thunder, or rain;

공사를 행하실 때는 바람과 이슬과 서리와 눈과 우레와 비를 일으키시고

3 and she made the sun, the moon, and the stars disappear and then reappear as she wielded heaven and earth’s power of creation-transformation at will.

일월성신(日月星辰)도 감추었다가 다시 나타나게 하시며 천지조화를 뜻대로 쓰시니라.

4 When a drought became severe, Taemonim staved off famine by summoning bountiful rain using cheongsu.

가뭄이 심할 때는 청수로 비를 풍족케 하시어 기아(飢餓)를 면하게 하시고

5 To resolve people’s trials and tribulations, she would speak a few words to Sangjenim or offer a chiseong.

창생들의 화액(禍厄)을 끄르실 때는 상제님께 몇 마디 말씀을 아뢰거나 혹은 치성을 드리시며

6 To address suffering from illness, she would caress the diseased parts of the sick and bridle demons to effect complete recovery.

병고(病苦)에는 손으로 환부를 어루만지시고 마(魔)를 다스려 완쾌되게 하시니라.
