The Great Dao of Employing the Mind

심법을 쓰는 대도

When Sangjenim appraised people of the past,

상제님께서 옛사람을 평론하실 때는

he would always praise Gahng Tae-gong, Shakyamuni, General Guan Yu, and Matteo Ricci.

매양 강태공, 석가모니, 관운장, 이마두를 칭찬하시니라.

Sangjenim declared,

상제님께서 말씀하시기를

“The worker must always possess both firmness and gentleness,

“일꾼된 자 강유(剛柔)를 겸비하여

never swaying too far in either direction,

한편이라도 기울지 아니하여야 할지니

for even the supreme virtue of heaven and earth

천지의 대덕(大德)이라도

requires both the benevolence and grimness of giving life in spring and taking life in autumn.”

춘생추살(春生秋殺)의 은위(恩威)로써 이루어지느니라.” 하시니라.

He also proclaimed,

또 말씀하시기를

“Where there is righteousness, dao dwells; where dao dwells, virtue arises.”

“의로움(義)이 있는 곳에 도(道)가 머물고, 도가 머무는 곳에 덕(德)이 생기느니라.” 하시니라.
